The Doberman is named after Louis Doberman from Apolda Germany. Breeds that were crossed to make the Doberman were, Short Hair Shepherd and Rottweiler, Black and Tan Terrier and Smooth Hair German Pinscher. He accomplished this around 1890 and the AKC recognized the breed in 1900. They are said to be alert, fearless and loyal. When trained properly they make a wonderful family pet.
